A home improvement specialist is bucking the national retail gloom by posting its best month ever.
5 Star Windows & Conservatories, which has showrooms in Kidderminster, Telford and Worcester, secured over £2m of orders during the last four weeks - the first time it has achieved this milestone in its 24-year history.
The company has seen consumer demand for windows, doors and living spaces all grow during the first six months of 2026 and, with a strong pipeline of potential new orders in place, confidently expect turnover to hit £24m.
Managing Director Richard Manser puts his firm’s ability to overcome the downtown in ‘bricks and mortar’ retail to an appetite for constant investment in product, showrooms, new technology and, most importantly, its staff.
“We now have 105 of our 200-strong workforce fully employed - this is an important 24-month milestone into our five-year staff plan to get everyone in full-time employment with us,” explained Richard, who recently renewed the company’s sponsorship deal with Worcester Warriors for another season.
“The days of having lots of self-employed people being paid in commission is slowly becoming a thing of the past and it’s translating into an enhanced customer experience.
“We are very proactive in promoting what we offer. For example, our industry-leading twenty-year guarantee promise blends really nicely with the significant amount of repeat business and referrals we receive daily.”
He continued: “There’s a determination to not stand still and simply reflect on what was a great month. Our focus is on always getting better and that’s why we’re investing in upgrading our showrooms, creating a new training centre for our team and, importantly, considering the launch of a new Birmingham showroom in the next couple of months.”
5 Star Windows & Conservatories, which has renewed its ISO 9001, ISO 14001 (environmental) and ISO 45001 (health and safety) quality accreditations, has established a strong reputation across its three showrooms in Shropshire and Worcestershire, completing more than 40,000 successful installations during the last twenty-four years.
The company provides a complete end-to-end service for clients, from initial consultation and support with designs to installations being completed by one of its dedicated fitting teams and access to an extensive aftercare package.
Its fleet of vehicles has now increased to over 70 and an £110,000 investment in a purpose-built training centre at its Kidderminster office has also created a 25-seater space to encourage team building and deliver a mix of internal and external training courses.
These will cover marketing, selling, installation and fitting, not to mention access to a host of personal development opportunities for staff.
Richard went on to add: “We want to make the 5 Star experience extra special for customers and our people are a big part of that. Yes, clients are buying the frames, the windows and the doors, but they’re also buying a level of personal service, attention to detail and care you can’t find anywhere else.
“It’s an approach that is working, with business in our three core areas up between 10 and 15%. The aim now is to take it further afield and I’m proud to say we’re close to agreeing a deal to open a new showroom in south Birmingham.
He concluded: “This could be signed within weeks and open before the end of the year, giving us an important presence on the ground to attract business from the city centre, surrounding suburbs, Solihull, Coventry and parts of Warwickshire.”
