The Georgian Bar Company has introduced Jade’s Astragal bar miller to the US market as part of the launch of its new California division.
The company has worked with Jade for several years and has promoted the milling machine across its installer network. According to The Georgian Bar Company, the machine has helped reduce installation time while supporting accurate cuts and a consistent finish for astragal bars.
To support the US launch, the machine design was adapted to suit American window systems, which typically feature shallower rebates.
Phil Dewhurst, managing director at The Georgian Bar Company, said: “We had to reverse engineer the existing UK design to better suit the US style window which tends to have more shallow rebates. But the finished miller still offers the same portability, flexibility of use and standard of finish that we have grown accustomed to over the years.”
The Georgian Bar Company has also worked with Jade to develop the Astragal miller further, including the addition of moveable inserts that allow different bar sizes to be used on the same machine.
Dewhurst said the machine is suited to both site and factory use because it allows operators to process bars quickly without waiting for air compression cycles to reset.
The Astragal miller has also been supplied internationally through The Georgian Bar Company’s partnership network in India, where five machines have already been shipped.
Adam Jones, director at Jade, said: “Working with Phil and his team at The Georgian Bar Co has been instrumental in the evolution of the engineering behind the Astragal bar miller.
“The feedback and input from both installers on site, and fabricators operating the machine on the factory floor has allowed us to develop a machine which performs the simplest of tasks perfectly, all wrapped up in one small, low cost package.”
According to Jade, the Astragal Bar Miller weighs 15kg and is designed to be portable for on-site use.
