Entrance Systems Alliance (ESA), formed by Automatic Doors Suppliers Association (ADSA) and Door & Hardware Federation (DHF), has launched a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision (Construction), aimed at developing supervisory skills across the sector.
The qualification is a workplace-based programme designed to assess competence in a real construction environment. Built around National Occupational Standards, it evaluates practical ability through evidence gathered on site rather than through classroom-based examinations.
Learners complete a structured portfolio of evidence, supported by a qualified assessor, with assessment based on a pass or fail outcome. Candidates must be employed in a relevant role, ensuring that the qualification reflects real workplace responsibilities.
The course is aimed at individuals currently supervising teams or preparing to move into supervisory roles, as well as those with existing industry experience or a Level 2 qualification. To achieve the diploma, learners must complete six mandatory units and two optional units covering areas such as monitoring work progress, maintaining health and safety standards, co-ordinating operations and developing working relationships on site.
Optional units allow learners to tailor the qualification to their role, including areas such as team performance, quality standards and the use of plant and equipment.
Ken Price, Managing Director at ADSA, said: “Our work with the CITB super sector groups has highlighted the need for a route to professional competence; this level 3 qualification offers an opportunity for supervisors in the door, gate and shutter systems industry to demonstrate their competence and gives them a clearly defined pathway towards future management positions.”
Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens, Deputy CEO at DHF, added: “Developing competent, confident supervisors is critical to the future of our industry. This qualification provides a practical route for individuals to demonstrate their ability in a real working environment, while giving employers confidence in the skills and standards of their teams.”
