Opening Windows to a Smarter Future

From hard-to-reach windows in commercial buildings to everyday comfort in the home, family-run Window Control Systems is making window automation more accessible than ever.

For almost 10 years, Window Control Systems (WCS) has specialised in the installation, maintenance and servicing of manual and electric window actuators across the UK. From schools and churches to factories and commercial premises, the business has built its reputation on providing practical solutions for windows that are difficult to reach or operate.

Now, with a new generation helping to drive the business forward, WCS is embracing innovative technology to make window automation more convenient, accessible and cost-effective.

In January 2024, Paul Hague joined the family business, bringing fresh ideas and a determination to explore new opportunities.

Paul spent time understanding how the business operated, speaking with manufacturers and customers to learn what worked well and where improvements could be made.

Through these conversations, he recognised an opportunity to modernise window automation, addressing everyday challenges faced by businesses and individuals.

One of his first developments was the introduction of battery-operated window actuators. These provide a practical solution for people who struggle to open windows manually, particularly older people or those with reduced mobility. Whether installed in private homes, care homes or smaller commercial settings, the technology makes everyday ventilation easier and more accessible.

But the innovation didn't stop there.

Recognising the growing demand for connected technology, Paul began exploring smart window actuators, opening up new possibilities for domestic and commercial customers.

Smart actuators allow compatible windows to be operated through a mobile app, giving users greater control without needing to physically access the window.

For homeowners, this means greater comfort and convenience. For commercial premises, the benefits extend beyond simply opening and closing windows.

Smart technology can also support maintenance and servicing, helping engineers diagnose potential faults more efficiently, reducing disruption and potentially lowering maintenance costs.

Compatible electric actuators can also be upgraded using additional smart control devices, meaning existing systems may benefit from modern functionality without complete replacement.

Paul explains:

"When I joined the business, I wanted to understand the challenges our customers faced and where we could make a difference. Window automation has traditionally been about solving access problems, but technology gives us the opportunity to do so much more. It's about finding smarter, simpler solutions that make everyday life easier for people, while helping businesses manage their systems more efficiently."

For WCS, this represents an exciting evolution. What was once primarily a solution for high-level windows in schools, industrial buildings and churches is becoming an increasingly practical option for everyday environments.

By combining established engineering expertise with modern technology, WCS is helping more people and businesses across the UK discover the benefits of smarter window control.

Because window automation isn't just about reaching difficult windows anymore. It's about creating more comfortable, accessible and manageable spaces.
